Dayton's visit to Willmar postponed
WILLMAR - Governor Mark Dayton will be in Willmar Wednesday afternoon to discuss transportation, including the proposed four-lane project on state Highway 23 from New London to Paynesville.
Dayton is scheduled to be in Willmar at 4 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the Health and Human Services Building, 200 23rd St. NE.
He’ll be joined by Charlie Zelle, the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
According to information from his office, Dayton will conduct a press conference on the issue of “transportation investments” on Highway 23 and “how the Governor’s transportation proposal will address those needs.”
In his budget proposal presented last week, Dayton recommended adding a new gasoline tax and higher vehicle registration fees as part of a plan to raise $6 billion that would be spent over 10 years to upgrade the state’s roads and bridges.
His list of over proposed 600 projects includes turning the seven-mile gap between New London and Paynesville into a four-lane highway.
Local business leaders and legislators have worked for years to complete a four-lane corridor on Highway 23 from Willmar to Interstate 94 near St. Cloud.
