SPICER -- Everyone who breathes air and drinks water is invited to an Earth Day Celebration: Think Globally, Act Locally, on Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free food, numerous informational booths, entertainment and fun activities for kids will be featured.
Speaker Peter Ciborowski will address the effects of climate change on our state at 11:30 a.m. The Earth Day Celebration will be held at Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center, near Spicer, and is free to the public.
Free omelets will be served from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., to the first 300 people in attendance. Booths and information will be available about energy efficiency, wind and solar power, and corn-burning technology, as well as hybrid and grease cars. Come learn what can be done to improve water quality in lakes and rivers, maintain air quality and reduce waste. For the kids, Prairie Woods' popular indoor climbing wall will be open. The Riverside String Band will provide live music.
The Earth Day Celebration will help people learn how global issues affect them -- in their own backyards. Expect to come away with options for making better economic and environmental decisions locally.
Sponsors of the Earth Day Celebration are Shakopee Creek Headwaters Project, Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center, Crow River Organization of Water, Hawk Creek Watershed Project, Chippewa River Watershed Project, North Fork Crow River Watershed District, Clean Energy Resource Teams, Little Crow Anglers, and Kandiyohi County SWCD, with assistance by Spicer Sons of the American Legion.
