MONTEVIDEO -- "Prayers for Pakistan" to benefit that country's flood victims will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 224 North Fourth Street in Montevideo.
This past summer heavy monsoon rains produced devastating floods that affected an estimated 21 million people, more than were affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami, the Haiti earthquake and Pakistan's 2005 earthquake combined.
Aziz Ansari of Watson, who grew up in Pakistan and moved to the United States at age 26, will discuss the people of Pakistan, their traditions and religion, economy, culture and geography.
Marienne Krietlow, a composer and performer, will perform.
A meal, including Persian cuisine, will be served at 5 p.m. No registration is required.
