NEW LONDON -- Ethan Illies went the distance, striking out eight, and Darrin Palmquist ignited the New London-Spicer offense with a two-run single as the Wildcats clipped Benson 5-2 in a non-conference game Thursday.
Illies surrendered seven hits and one earned run in his complete-game win.
Palmquist put NLS (4-12) ahead 3-1 in the third and Luke Reiter drove in a run in the fourth and sixth innings to cap the scoring for the Wildcats.
Kyle Pederson tripled and singled for Benson.

The Tigers crammed most of their offense for the day into the first inning, when they generated five runs on five hits. Wheaton had its own big inning scoring with six runs in the sixth off reliever Kirby Sayles.
Wheaton's Luke Schmitz went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI while pitcher Mitchell Lampe lasted all seven innings for the win.
Nate Gades went the first four innings for Morris, allowing three hits and one run. Darrick Henrichs had three of the nine hits by Morris (6-12).
