Prep football kicks off tonight

The 2007 high school football season kicks off tonight with five of the 20 teams in the West Central Tribune coverage area in action.

BOLD plays Minnesota Valley Lutheran in New Ulm, Dawson-Boyd hosts Canby, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg hosts Pillager in Murdock, Litchfield hosts Staples-Motley and MACCRAY hosts Adrian in Maynard.

Twelve more games involving area teams will be played on Friday, including Willmar (see separate preview on Page B-3).

Litchfield and MACCRAY both advanced to the state tournament last season.

All 20 teams are previewed in the Pigskin Preview football publication in today's D section.

Seven players who were chosen to the All-Area team last year return this season. They are Kurtis Huisman, a junior running back from Atwater-Csomos-Grove City, Cameron Jurgenson, a senior wide receiver from Dawson-Boyd; Mark Skoglund, a senior linebacker from KMS; Brock Madsen, a senior linebacker from MACCRAY; Jordan Spaeth, a senior linebacker from Paynesville; Tramel Barnes, a senior defensive back from Montevideo; and Jordan Smith, a junior punter from Willmar.
