Prep Softball: Benson/Hancock shares South title with Waska

GRANITE FALLS -- Benson/Hancock earned a tie for the West Central South Conference softball title by sweeping Yellow Medicine East Thursday 4-2 and 8-7 in eight innings.

GRANITE FALLS -- Benson/Hancock earned a tie for the West Central South Conference softball title by sweeping Yellow Medicine East Thursday 4-2 and 8-7 in eight innings.

The Brave/Owls finished 11-3 in league, sharing the crown with Minnewaska.

Game One

Benson/Hancock 4, YME 2

Courtney Frank doubled twice for Benson/Hancock and drove in two runs, while Taylor Semler survived a two-run rally from the Sting in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Courtney Frank again doubled twice for Benson/Hancock, driving home the winning run with no outs in the bottom of the eighth.

The Sting (8-6, 10-7) pounded out 13 hits and tied the game in the seventh with the help of Aimee Johnson's two-run double and Whitney Swenson's RBI single.

Christy Gass gave up just one hit -- a single to Ashley Roder in the third -- and allowed only three batters to reach base to earn the win for BOLD.

Laura Padrnos, Alex Ebnet and Brenna Holwerda hit consecutive singles to open the third inning for BOLD. After Holwerda's hit drove in a run, a Montevideo error led to another run. Sam Dooner then followed with a two-run single.
