Prep Softball: Homers power Benson/Hancock past Morris

BENSON -- Jenny Noordmans slugged a pair of two-run home runs and Courtney Frank added a solo shot Thursday to help Benson/Hancock upend Morris 6-3 in a West Central South Conference game.

Morris had an eight-game winning streak halted.

Noordmans belted her first homer in the first inning and Frank followed up with her blast. Noordmans then went deep in the fifth to cap the scoring for Benson/Hancock (6-2, 8-3), which also got an RBI triple in the fourth from Mallory Jensen.

Taylor Semler benefited from the support to pick up the win, spinning all seven innings while striking out eight.

Sara Beyer had two hits and drove in a run for Morris (5-6, 8-6).

The Sting stopped a seventh-inning Thunder Hawk rally, getting a lineout with runners on first and third to end the game.

YME (6-4, 7-4) had four players with multi-hit games and pounded out four doubles. Lauren Trudel led the way with two runs scored and two RBI.


Calie Roggatz paced Montevideo (4-7, 5-8) with two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Emily Blauert tripled.

Lakers' pitcher Alicia Pfeninger stranded the tying run at third base and Minnewaska (9-1, 13-2) escaped an upset bid by Lac qui Parle Valley (1-7, 2-8).

Pfeninger's bases-clearing double spiked a four-run first.


The Eagles struck back with a four-run third in which Kayla Henneberg drove in two runs.

Christy Gass scored the winning run on an error with one out in the top half of the seventh inning. BOLD was outhit 11-7, but four errors plagued the Falcons.

Kathy Lamecker and Peterson both had three hits for ACGC. Brenna Holwerda singled twice and drove in two runs for BOLD.

Laura Schaefer clubbed a three-run home run in the second inning and Whitney Woehler threw a five-hit shutout to highlight the Bulldogs' victory.

Schaefer, who also doubled, now has six home runs this season. Keely Meagher went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple and two RBI. Jessica Klein also went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI for Paynesville (8-3, 9-3).


Woehler struck out eight and walked one in the complete-game win.

Taylor Thompsen smack-ed a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Wildcats (3-5, 3-6).

New London-Spicer held a 3-0 lead after five innings, but an error allowed Melrose to score two runs and a sacrifice fly tied the game.


Wildcat starter Jessica Rosendahl retired the last six batters. She scattered six hits in eight innings and struck out six while walking none.
