Prep Softball: MACCRAY upsets No. 1 CAHN

CHOKIO -- MACCRAY scored seven times in the first inning and went on to upset top-seeded Chokio-Alberta/Herman-Norcross 13-8 in the second round of the Section 3A softball playoffs on Tuesday.

MACCRAY nipped Ren-ville County West 1-0 in the first round.

MACCRAY plays Red Rock Central at 2 p.m. Saturday in the winner's bracket.

First round MACCRAY 1, RCW 0

The Wolverines scored the lone run in the fifth inning on a single by Ashley Trulock, consecutive wild pitches and an RBI groundout by Steph Tulibaski.


Trulock, who went 2-for-2, went the distance on a one-hitter for the win. She struck out 10.

Amanda Schultz took the loss despite allowing only four hits.

(At Montevideo) -- Trailing 5-3, the Fighting Saints scored eight runs in the fifth inning on eight hits. Steph Stassen and Courtney Kavanagh had two-run doubles and Amy Neal also doubled in a run.


Sam Dunn got the win in relief, allowing seven hits and two earned runs over the final 52/3 innings.

Though Morris was held to one hit, the Tigers scored on a sacrifice bunt by Jen Storck and an error in the third inning, then added an insurance run in the fourth without a hit.

Mary Rentz had the only hit for Morris. Kelsey Amundson picked up the win in relief. She threw four hitless innings, striking out seven and walking two.


Kristen Lee took the loss for the Blackjacks, despite only giving up one hit. She struck out seven and walked four.

Brandi Bodin added a two-run double in the fifth.
