Prep Softball: Monte holds off late ACGC charge

GROVE CITY -- Montevideo held off Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 10-8 win in West Central South softball on Monday.

Shelby Monahan pitched the first five innings and left with a 10-3 lead. After ACGC rallied against reliever Calie Roggatz, pulling within 10-8 and having the tying run on second with one out, Monahan returned and got the last two outs on a grounder and pop-out.

Emily Blauert had two hits and drove in three runs for Montevideo. Jordan Kline had two hits and drove in two runs. Kayla Berget scored four times and Karie Blommel three.

Stephanie Nelson was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Falcons.

Morris won its sixth in a row after an 0-5 start.

Kelsey Amundson pitched into the seventh inning, but Sara Beyer was called on to extinguish a no-out, bases-loaded fire. After getting one out, she gave up a bases-loaded single but then got the next two Thunder batters for the save.

Beyer also doubled twice and drove in three runs. Britney Greenwaldt also had two hits.

Lac qui Parle Valley rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score 6-6 but Benson/Hancock answered with one in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Debbie Reardon had three hits and Courtney Frank a pair of doubles to lead the 15-hit offense against Eagles' pitcher Nicole Streich.

Tiffany Volk's triple drove in two runs in the LQPV fifth.


Maria Hanson got the win with three innings of relief after Taylor Semler went the first four.
