LAKEVILLE -- Five Willmar tennis players advanced in the Section 2AA-South tournament Saturday at Lakeville.
Both Cardinals' doubles teams advanced to action today. Matt Hallstrom and Marco Vazquez had a bye in the first round, then won 6-3, 6-2. Jordan Baker and Trent Fader won their first match easily, 6-0, 6-2, then had to battle through two seven-set wins, beating Alex Welter-Phil Weyne of Mankato East 7-5, 7-6 (7-1).
In singles, Jim Neis won both of his matches, including a three-set win against Jeff Runch of New Ulm. Zach Burton won his first match, then lost to Joe Meier of Hutchinson, 6-2, 6-0.
