WILLMAR -- Despite losing two sets in doubles, Willmar ended up blanking New Ulm 7-0 Tuesday in the opening round of the Section 2AA-South playoffs.

The No. 3-seeded Cardinals will now be at No. 2 Hutchinson on Thursday. The match is slated to start at 4 p.m.

"We had a couple of close matches, but we had won the first five points quite handily," said Willmar coach Loren Holter. "We played well, but we'll have to play better on Thursday. I'm sure it will be tough."

Marco Vazquez (No. 1), Matt Hallstrom (No. 2), Jim Neis (No. 3) and Matt Horning (No. 4) all won their singles matches in straight sets. Trent Fader and Jordan Baker also won in straight sets at 1-doubles, while Mitch Fader-Zach Burton (No. 2) and Chris Van Doran-Ryan Sheehan (No. 3) won in three sets.
