Today west central Minnesotans will caucus in their local precincts to decide the state's preferences in the presidential party races. Minnesota joins 21 others states in Super Tuesday, the largest day of primaries and caucuses in the 2008 election.
Last week, as the Minnesota caucuses neared, the Duluth News Tribune's editorial page staff requested columns from the Democratic and Republican candidates for president. All were asked to specifically say why Minnesotans should give them their support.
Today the West Central Tribune shares those responses from two Republican candidates, Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. John McCain, and from two Democrat candidates, Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
The Republican campaigns of Gov. Mike Huckabee and Rep. Ron Paul chose not to participate.
