Principals group honors Simenson

WILLMAR -- Beckie Simenson, Willmar Middle School assistant principal, has been recognized as Central Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals Assistant Principal of the Year.

WILLMAR - Beckie Simenson, Willmar Middle School assistant principal, has been recognized as Central Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals Assistant Principal of the Year.

Simenson is a lifelong Willmar resident, graduating from Willmar Senior High in 1979. She pursued her degree in elementary education from the College of St. Benedict and taught at Litchfield St. Phillip’s School.

She returned to Willmar and taught at Blomkest Elementary, Lincoln, Lafayette and Kennedy. While teaching at Kennedy, she got her master’s degree in educational leadership from St. Cloud State University.

She then moved to Roosevelt Elementary School and served as dean of students, receiving her sixth year degree and K-12 principal licensure and district superintendent licensure in educational administration.

She served as elementary assistant principal at Park Elementary and then principal at West Elementary Schools in Hutchinson. She returned to Willmar and was hired as principal for Lincoln and Jefferson Elementary Schools.

During this time she also served as Title I administrator and spent one year as Willmar ALC principal. In 2010, when the Willmar schools consolidated the elementary schools, she moved to the Willmar Middle School and helped implement the Top 20 Teens program, Bully Hotline and The Power of the ICU.

Simenson has served as president of the Willmar Fest Board of Directors, is a member of United Way Empower, and has served on the Early Childhood Coalition and the Junior Achievement Board of Directors.
