I walked up to the Republican booth at the Kandiyohi County Fair and shook hands with the lady in attendance. I said -- I'm a Democrat. She said -- Why? I had a long discussion with her. It wasn't easy with three or four other Republican antagonists and my minimal debating skills.

I should have immediately turned it around by asking her -- Why would anyone be a Republican when the majority of our citizens feel the country's in trouble and in need of change? Radicals scream -- Change what? I say change everything! Our nation is suffering from eight years of Republicans. Only the rich and big oil are profiting.

We are now the most hated nation in the world. We are mired in a war that is buried in lies and we have destroyed that nation and its citizens. We should just pull out our troops and apologize to the world for a stupid act. Then we should begin using diplomacy that treats other nations as we would wish to be treated.

The false Republican leading our nation doesn't follow what I thought were conservative ideas such as balanced budgets and small government. He inherited a balanced budget and we now have the largest deficit in history. He doesn't have to pay for it so it makes sense to him. Future economies will suffer his Republican selfishness.

Our nation's workings should be open to inspection and no one should be above the law. Our "leader" openly blocks attempts to get information leading to criminal acts. He ignores laws by countersignings. Our national energy policy was conducted behind closed doors and we are blocked from even knowing who participated. We know environmental groups weren't present. In fact science is not only ignored by our "leader" but it is openly deleted from reports.

We can't trust any Republican to lead our nation after this last two-term disaster. It's a good thing we have Democrats. We bite the bullet and pay as we go. Someone has to be responsible. Republicans aren't!
