I read your article "16-year-old enters not guilty plea to charge of child porn" (Aug. 15) online. I appreciate that there are some thoughtful and compassionate online comments regarding this article because the easy response to reading it is to simply indict the subject. As someone who has known the subject, Ian, his entire life, I read this information with great concern, but I continue to believe in the remarkably talented, intelligent and promising person that he is.
However, I will be in the vast minority of readers. Given the legal, social, and moral complexities of this situation, I seriously question the editorial choice to print Ian's name. I hope the decision was given some weighty contemplation because your determination that the public needed to know this information has devastated a young man's life.
