WILLMAR--The Minnesota Department of Transportation will hold a video conference public hearing from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 8 in Willmar to solicit comments on the 2010-2030 Greater Minnesota Transit Plan.

Willmar is one of 15 cities statewide selected to host the video conference. Participants will hear a presentation about the plan from MnDOT officials and be able to provide comments regarding its content. Comments will be considered and then implemented into the final plan.

According to information from MnDOT, the plan sets a long-range vision for public transportation in small towns, large cities and rural areas across the state during the next 20 years. It identifies transit service needs and analyzes future levels of funding to meet those needs.

Some key challenges considered in developing the plan include maintaining and expanding public transit, changing mobility needs of individuals, changing mobility needs of the work force, changing transit options in Greater Minnesota and coordination of services.

The conference will take place at MnDOT's District 8 headquarters at 2505 Transportation Road in Willmar.
