SPICER -- Richard Wayne Peterson, 81, of Spicer, formerly of Ruthton, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be at Lebanon Cemetery in New London. Military honors will be provided by the Spicer American Legion Post 545.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
He was born on June 2, 1926, in Slayton to Edwin and Eathel (McLain) Peterson. He grew up on the family farm. He attended Brookside Country School, and Slayton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman until 1944.
He married Bernetta Holck on Feb. 11, 1949. They lived in Ruthton, where he worked as a custodian and bus driver for the Ruthton Public Schools. In 1968, he started to work at the Minnesota Department of Transportation as an office manager. In 1977, they moved to Spicer. He retired on Aug. 17, 1988.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in New London. He also was a life member of the Spicer American Legion Post 545.
He is survived by his children: Stu of Ruthton, Don of Spicer, Jule (and Rick) Reese of Woodstock; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister: Jean Gilbertson of Maple Grove; and brother: Dale Peterson of Ruthton.
He was preceded in death by his wife on May 16, two brothers and a sister.
