WILLMAR -- Two Appleton residents were injured Tuesday night after the vehicle they were driving was rear-ended during an area rainstorm.
Rosalie Anne Pike Gomez, 37, and Jesse Dale Gomez, 45, were both injured after a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Stephen Dean Vogel ran into the back of their vehicle. Rosalie had been driving the vehicle along state Highway 40 near the intersection of County Road 47 and had parked along the side of the road during the rainstorm, a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department report states.
Vogel told authorities he saw the brake lights of the vehicle and thought that it was still moving on the road. Vogel estimated he ran into the vehicle at a speed around 40 mph.
Both Rosalie Gomez and Jesse Gomez were transported to Rice Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries by Willmar Ambulance.
The Willmar Police Department, Willmar Fire Department and Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.
