WILLMAR -- Andres Sylvester Rasmussen, 22, of Willmar, will be sentenced to prison this afternoon in Kandiyohi County District Court for having a year-long sexual relationship with a young girl.

Rasmussen is scheduled to be sentenced at 1:45 p.m. by District Judge David L. Mennis, who will determine how long Rasmussen will be in the custody of the State Department of Corrections.

According to County Attorney Jenna Fischer, she will ask Mennis to send Rasmussen to prison for 432 months, which is 36 years, on consecutive sentences for three first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.

A jury found Rasmussen guilty of the three counts in May. The trial revealed that there were more than 100 incidents of sexual abuse by Rasmussen on the then 14-year-old girl during a 13-month period, Fischer said.

According to Fischer, the presentence investigation by Kandiyohi County Community Corrections recommends a 360-month sentence, 30 years in prison.

The charges against Rasmussen were first filed last October and then amended to add three more first-degree counts in December. The case came to law enforcement attention after the now 16-year-old girl reported that she had been having sexual relations with Rasmussen since September 2010.
