GLENWOOD -- Raymond Alford "Ray" Plotz, 72, of Glenwood, formerly of Clements and Redwood Falls, died Sunday at Seasons in Redwood Falls, after battling with Waldenstrom's Macroglobuemia, a form of bone marrow cancer
The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Burial, with military honors, will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Clements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Dec. 12, 1936, in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Joseph and Bertha (Bruckbauer) Plotz. He attended elementary school in Clements and graduated in 1955 from Springfield High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1955 and served with the 91st Artillery Company in Wiesbaden, Germany, for a year and a half. Then he returned to rural Clements where he farmed.
He married Audrey Ohlemann on Sept. 5, 1959, in Clements. He farmed with his brothers. From 1967 to 1969, he also owned livestock trucks and trucked around the Clements area. He did custom baling, silo filing and harvesting for area farmers. He retired from farming in 1992, after he was diagnosed with Waldenstrom's Macroglobuemia. Following chemotherapy, he went into remission until late 1997. They moved into Redwood Falls where he worked for the city's street department. Audrey died in 2002. He retired in 2004 and moved to his lake home in Glenwood.

He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, where he served on the parish council. He was past commander of the Robert Siekora American Legion Post 519 in Clements.
He is survived by his children: Joseph (and Renee) Plotz of Milan, Guy (and Brenda) Plotz of Bunnlevel, N.C., Wade (and Tammy) Plotz of Redwood Falls, and Shelly (and Kevin) Kloos of Winsted; 11 grandchildren; a step-grandson; five great-grandchildren; a special friend: Gloria Kottom of Renville; and siblings: Leona (and Leo) Prokosch of Redwood Falls, Leo (and Janet) Plotz, and Irvin (and Donna) Plotz, both of Clements.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
