NEW LONDON -- Raymond LeRoy Emmert, 74, of New London, formerly Madison, died Monday at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be at Lebanon Cemetery in New London.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
He was born April 13, 1931, near Marvin, S.D., to Lawrence and Louise (Winters) Emmert. He attended Riverton Grammar School in Palisade. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean War. He returned home in 1954.

He married Lois Suflow on Sept. 10, 1960, near Montevideo. They lived near Montevideo and he operated his own feed grinding business. They moved to Maynard in 1962 and to Madison in 1967. He worked for Madison Best Feeds in feed grinding and as a truck driver for 20 years. He also worked as a custodian at the Madison School for a short time. He retired in 1988. They moved to New London in 2005.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in New London and former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Madison, where he served as an usher. He was a member of the food committee at GlenOaks, VFW Post 1656 in Madison and the board of Future Farmers of America at the Madison High School. He was a 4-H leader and treasurer and served on the Lac qui Parle County 4-H Livestock Board.
He is survived by his wife; children: Virginia (and Kent) Munro of Crest Hill, Ill., Vonnie (and Lonny) Loterbauer of New London, Valerie (and Brian) Engels of Watertown, S.D., Vernon Emmert of Gulfport, Miss., Virgil (and Lisa) Emmert of Shakopee; three grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and his siblings: Lawrence Emmert of Medical Lake, Wash., Norman Emmert of Smithville, Tenn., and Ramona Larson of Montevideo.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
