RENVILLE -- The Renville County West School Board has approved a $501,000 property tax levy for 2006.
The 2006 levy is $192,000 less than the levy approved a year ago and paid this year. The district is an anomaly in a year when many school districts are increasing their local property taxes, said Superintendent Doug Conboy.
"We had a consolidation levy that sunset, and we didn't seek an additional levy for anything," said Superintendent Doug Conboy.
The consolidation levy took about $175,000 out of the levy. Even with additional state aid approved by the Legislature this year, the district's revenue is falling because of declining enrollment and the loss of the consolidation levy, Conboy said this fall.
The district anticipates total revenue of about $6.1 million this year. The board also acknowledged a donation for the purchase of library books. Don and Nancy Hagen gave the donation in memory of their daughter, Annie.
