Duck hunters rescued off of Marsh Lake

MADISON -- Law enforcement officers rescued three stranded duck hunters Sunday evening from an island in Marsh Lake.

According to a news release from Lac qui Parle County Sheriff Rick Halverson, his office received a 911 call around 7:40 p.m. Sunday that the hunters were stuck on the island and had lost their way to the boat landing. The group's boat had gotten stuck and they were unable to continue due to the inclement weather.

Sheriff's deputies and the state Department of Natural Resources responded and located the group, transporting them via boat to the boat landing.

Also responding were the Appleton police and ambulance, Swift County Sheriff's Office and the State Patrol.

Police investigating downtown burglary, property damage

WILLMAR -- Willmar police are investigating a series of burglary and property damage cases reported Tuesday morning at the Centre Point Mall, 321 Fifth St. S.W., and other locations in downtown Willmar.

According to Capt. Jim Felt, the incidents included someone entering the businesses and causing damage, including discharging a fire extinguisher.

Property damage

WILLMAR -- Damage to a vehicle and a building was reported around 6:45 p.m. Monday along the 500 block of Benson Avenue Southeast.

WILLMAR -- Damage was reported around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday along the 300 block of Vos Park Drive Northwest.

Kandiyohi County

n Melton Larmouth, 35, of Raymond, made his first appearance Tuesday on a felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation.

Unconditional bail was set at $10,000. His next appearance is Jan. 10.

Larmouth also faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault.

According to the complaint, Kandiyohi County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a Raymond residence around 7 p.m. Saturday on a welfare check, to follow up on a report that a teenager had been assaulted. While the deputies were en route, they were informed that teen boy had made a 911 call to dispatch.

The deputies found the boy outside of the residence. He had red marks and scratches on his neck and the beginning of a black eye. The teen said he had turned off the television and took the remote control, with Larmouth sleeping in front of the television, before Larmouth grabbed, choked and punched him. He said his breathing was impeded for 30 seconds as Larmouth held his throat.

Larmouth denied the allegations, told the deputies it was a family matter and that the boy had hit him. He said he only cornered the boy in kitchen and held him there.
