Benson woman dies of injuries suffered in July crash

CLONTARF --A 90-year-old Benson woman has died as a result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash July 9 near Clontarf.

According to the State Patrol, Pearl I. Buyck died Monday at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale

She was driving a 2002 Chevy Impala westbound on Swift County Road 22 and collided at the intersection with a 2001 Ford pickup driven by Juan M. Lopez, 29, of Morris. The pickup was northbound on State Highway 9. Neither Lopez nor his passenger, Carlos Gomez-Ortega, 30, of Morris, were injured.

Theft

KERKHOVEN -- The theft of mail was reported around 4:40 p.m. Monday along the 14000 block of U.S. Highway 12 Northwest.

SPICER -- The theft of a wedding ring was reported around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday along Oak Ridge Drive.

Graffiti

WILLMAR -- Reports of graffiti on buildings were received around 8 a.m. Tuesday along the 500 block of Fifth Street Southwest and the 300 block of Sixth Street Southwest.

Kandiyohi County

- Joshua Wayne Roschild, 19, of Willmar, pleaded guilty Monday to a felony first-degree property damage charge for kicking a vehicle and causing more than $1,500 in damage.

Under a plea agreement, he will receive a stay of imposition on his sentence. He will be sentenced Dec. 15.

The charge was filed after Willmar police were called around 5 p.m. June 1 to the area of 16th Street and 13th Avenue. A man there reported that he had seen two vehicles, a black Pontiac and a red Ford pickup nearby with the people in them yelling at one another. He said a man got out of the pickup and kicked the car, then got back into the pickup and both vehicles sped away. A woman who observed the scene from a nearby yard told officers she had seen the same thing happen.

The witnesses described the vehicles and the man, and another officer located the vehicles -- Roschild and a woman in the pickup and a man and woman in the car. The man reported he had had a relationship with the woman who was with Roschild and had let her use the pickup, but that he went to the home to get the pickup. He said Roschild got upset when he confronted him to get the keys and that he had spit on the car, attempted to pull him out of the vehicle and then kicked the car. There was a large dent and a footprint left on the Pontiac.

The repair bill was estimated at $1,509.95.

- Erik Ozornia, 22, of Willmar, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second-degree burglary and two gross misdemeanor charges of violating a domestic abuse no-contact order.

As part of a plea agreement, the felony was reduced from first-degree. Charges to be dismissed include another first-degree burglary charge, eight gross misdemeanors for violating a domestic abuse no-contact order and a misdemeanor for domestic assault. He will be sentenced Dec. 15.

According to the complaint, a woman was granted a no-contact order against Ozornia on May 25. Under the order, he was to have no contact with her and stay away from her residence.

The woman reported contact with Ozornia on multiple occasions in June and July, including that he entered a home where she was staying in the middle of the night, damaged her car, texted her using another person's cell phone, came to a party she attended and followed her in a car.

- Jesus Hernandes Hernandez, 49, of Appleton, pleaded guilty Monday to a felony charge of driving while impaired in March 2007.

As part of a plea agreement, another felony for DWI will be dismissed, as will a gross misdemeanor charge for driving after cancellation-inimical to public safety and a misdemeanor for open bottle. He will be sentenced Dec. 2.

Charges were filed against Hernandez after he was stopped on March 11, 2007, by a Kandiyohi County sheriff's deputy along 66th Avenue Northeast, north of Willmar.

A deputy pulled Hernandez over after seeing him swerving and varying his speed while heading south along U.S. Highway 71. The deputy reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol. Several open containers of beer were in the vehicle, along with a case of beer behind the driver's seat. Hernandez was unable to provide the deputy with a driver's license. He later admitted to drinking beer on his trip to Sauk Centre from Appleton.

A preliminary breath test at the scene showed that Hernandez was nearly three times more than the legal alcohol driving limit. He later refused to take a chemical test at the Kandiyohi County Jail.
