Thieves steal door off van in car lot
WILLMAR -- Sometime early Friday, thieves removed and stole the driver's door from a blue 2000 Chevrolet Venture van in the lot at the Car Connection in Willmar.
Kevin Anderson, a co-owner of the Car Connection, said it appeared that they broke the driver's window to open the hood and disable the security system. Then they took the door off its hinges and left with it.
Since the lot is right across the street from the Veterans of Foreign Wars post, the theft must have happened sometime after the VFW bar closed, Anderson said. He saw the door gone and called police about 7:45 a.m.
A body shop employee told him it would have taken at least 45 minutes to remove the vehicle's door, Anderson said.

Car Connection has had vandalism to its vehicles before, but he'd never seen a door stolen, Anderson said.
"It's sad people have to do that," he said. Anderson said he hopes someone notices if the door turns up on a vehicle somewhere.
