District Court, Kandiyohi County

A 42-year-old man made his first appearance in Kandiyohi County District Court Thursday on a felony drug charge.

Steven Lee Wick of Willmar was arrested Feb. 1 after he turned over cocaine to two Willmar police officers at his apartment in the 700 block of Ninth Street Southeast, according to the criminal complaint.

The officers went to the residence because they were informed of drug activity there, according to the complaint.

Wick told the officers that friends had come over to use drugs and that some were there when the officers arrived, the complaint said. Wick told police that he knows he "has to stop," according to the complaint, and that the officers being at his residence was a "wake-up call."

Wick brought one of the officers to a bedroom, where there were two women. Wick asked them to turn over any drugs, according to the complaint. One woman gave police cocaine contained within a syringe and was arrested, the complaint said.

Wick gave the officers a bag containing a white substance, which tests showed was 0.8 grams of cocaine, according to the complaint.

The officers also found a "great deal" of drug paraphernalia in the apartment, the complaint said.

Wick was charged with one felony count of a fifth-degree controlled substance crime and one petty misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Thursday, Judge Michael Thompson appointed him a public defender and released him on his own recognizance with conditions that he not possess or consume alcohol or mood-altering drugs and that he comply with his probation conditions.
