Man arrested after brandishing handgun
WILLMAR -- A 20-year-old Benson man was arrested by Willmar Police Saturday afternoon after he displayed a handgun at the Willow Run apartment complex.
The man had apparently argued earlier with some acquaintances and then went to a Willow Run apartment with a handgun in his waistband, according to Willmar Sgt. Jim Felt.
"He showed the gun, but he did not point it at anybody," Felt said. The man left the apartment for a time, and the occupants called 911.
When the man returned, he kicked in the door after the tenants refused to let him in, Felt said. At that point, an occupant of the apartment pointed a shotgun at the suspect. The two men fought, and when police arrived, the suspect jumped out a second floor window.
When they took the man into custody, officers discovered that the handgun was a replica, "but the occupants in the apartment thought it looked real," Felt said. "There were some tense moments there."
The man was arrested and taken to the Kandiyohi County Jail, facing charges of first-degree burglary, criminal damage to property and making terroristic threats.
