WILLMAR - A male juvenile faces charges after allegedly stealing a van and then crashing into three parked and unoccupied vehicles Friday night in Willmar.
Willmar police said the 17-year-old allegedly took the van from the parking lot of a repair shop. The youth told police he had been sent to buy groceries and claimed that “something must be broken” with the stolen van because when it hit a bump, it veered to the right and into three vehicles parked along the 700 block of Trott Avenue Southeast.
No one was injured in the crash. Police transported the juvenile home with his groceries and released him to his mother.
Charges of theft and driving without a license are pending.

The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said Jose Vergara, 51, was traveling south on County Road 8 when his vehicle entered the ditch on the east side of the highway, went back onto the road, then skidded on the gravel. Vergara reportedly lost control of the vehicle and went into the ditch on the other side of the road. The vehicle rolled onto its side, coming to rest in the edge of a cornfield.
Vergara was taken to the Granite Falls Hospital for treatment for head and neck pain that were not believed to be life-threatening. The crash, which was reported at around 4:45 p.m. Friday, remains under investigation by the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office.
The Clarkfield Ambulance and Clarkfield Fire Department also responded to the scene.
