WILLMAR -- A Tampa, Fla., man escaped serious injury Friday afternoon after he was struck by a motor home and became wedged underneath the front bumper of the vehicle.

The accident was reported at 4:14 p.m. at the Willmar Civic Center, where hundreds of Monaco motor coaches were just finishing a five-day rally.

According to the Willmar Police Department, James Daniel Sherfey, 74, stepped off the curb just as a motor home, which had been stopped, began to turn into an intersection. The driver of the vehicle was John David Ham, 71, of Snowmass, Colo.

An airlift suspension on the vehicle was used to raise the motorhome so Sherfey could be pulled out. He received only minor scrapes and cuts, according to Police, and did not need medical care.

ATWATER -- An accident between a motorcycle and another vehicle was reported at 12:02 p.m. Saturday at 5880 NE 165 St. involving a 22-year old Atwater man and a 60-year old man from St. James. No further information was available.

Fight

WILLMAR -- A soccer game ended abruptly Sunday afternoon in Willmar when members of both teams and spectators got into a brawl on the field.

According to the initial police report, there were approximately 60 people involved in the fight at one point.

There were no serious injuries reported and no one was arrested.

The incident involved rival teams with one comprised of Hondurans and the other made up of Somalis. The fight apparently started during the game between the teams and spectators joined in the altercation.

Everyone was advised to leave or face being arrested for trespassing.

The incident was reported at 1:49 p.m. at the soccer field west of the aquatic center.

Theft

WILLMAR -- A purse containing a social security number, credit cards and check blanks was reported stolen at 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

Stubborn swimmer

NEW LONDON -- A lifeguard at Kandiyohi County Park 7 on Games Lake almost needed the help of police to get a stubborn seven-year old out of the lake. The child reportedly would not leave the lake when directed by the lifeguard. When she sought the assistance of the child's parents, the lifeguard was told to call the police because they "couldn't deal with him either," according to the police report. The child did eventually come out of the water before officers arrived.
