WILLMAR -- A 68-year-old Willmar woman was arrested Saturday night after colliding with another vehicle on First Street South.

Gayle Marie Braun was turning left into the KFC parking lot around 6:30 p.m. when she hit a vehicle driven by James Allen Buck, who was driving north on First Street, according to the accident report.

Buck, 51, of Sunburg was taken by ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital. None of his three passengers was injured. Buck was not listed as a patient Sunday night at Rice.

Braun told police she thought she had enough time to turn, according to the report. A test showed her blood alcohol level was .20, according to the report. That is more than two times the legal limit of .08.

She was arrested pending a third-degree drunken driving charge, among other charges, according to the report.

SVEA -- A deer went through a vehicle's windshield Saturday evening at the intersection of Kandiyohi County Road 3 and U.S. Highway 71.

A passenger in the vehicle was knocked unconscious, but regained consciousness soon after the accident. He was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The patrol did not have his name.

Wind damage

WILLMAR -- A door on a Kandiyohi County Fairgrounds building was found ripped off Sunday morning. It appeared the strong winds Saturday night and Sunday morning had caused the damage, according to a Willmar Police Department report.

The door could not be secured so a caretaker was called.

Winds got up to 40 mph overnight Saturday in Willmar with gusts up to 49 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Fires

NEW LONDON -- The Sunburg Fire Department responded to a shed fire at 6:44 a.m. Sunday in the 22100 block of Kandiyohi County Road 5.

The fire started in a dog house that was wired for heating and spread to small utility shed, Fire Chief Milton Tollefson said.

The dog house was burned and there was minor damage to the shed, Tollefson said. The dog was not harmed, he said.

SUNBURG -- A combine started on fire in a cornfield at about 4:40 p.m. Friday in rural Sunburg.

The Sunburg Fire Department extinguished the fire and managed to contain it so that it didn't spread onto the field, Fire Chief Milton Tollefson said.

The fire started because of an electrical problem and caused "major damage" to the combine, Tollefson said.

No one was injured, he said.

ARCTANDER TOWNSHIP -- A 23-year-old Maynard hunter reported being assaulted by another hunter Saturday afternoon while hunting in a public wildlife area at 210th Avenue and 95th Street Northwest, according to a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department report. The department did not have additional information Sunday night.

Domestic assault

WILLMAR -- A 19-year-old Willmar man was arrested Saturday afternoon pending domestic assault charges after his girlfriend told police he pushed her in the 1300 block of Dana Drive Southeast.

Theft

WILLMAR -- A woman reported Saturday evening that her checkbook, keys and $1.50 were stolen from her purse in the 1400 block of First Street South.

NEW LONDON -- About $12 in gasoline was reported stolen Friday afternoon at Skindelien Standard Service in New London.

WILLMAR -- The theft of a Remington 11-87 shotgun was reported Friday afternoon from a vehicle in the 300 block of Becker Avenue Southeast.

BELGRADE -- Several items were reported stolen Friday morning from a garage in the 4300 block of 278th Street Northwest, including a chainsaw valued at $800, a Craftsman tap and die set valued at $300, a Craftsman impact wrench valued at $200 and a Craftsman 12-piece socket set.

Forgery

WILLMAR -- A resident in the 800 block of Third Street Southeast reported that someone was stealing and forging checks.

Property damage

WILLMAR -- A vehicle was reported damaged Saturday night after another vehicle hit it while it was parked in the 1500 block of 7½ Street Southwest in Willmar, according to a police report.

SPICER -- A damaged car window was reported to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department Saturday morning in the 7400 block of 158th Avenue Northeast. A mug had been thrown through the left rear window.

WILLMAR -- Damage to a windshield was reported Friday evening in the 500 block of 13th Street Southwest in Willmar. A 19-year-old man is suspected of causing the damage.

Scam

WILLMAR -- A resident in the 1700 block of Hansen Drive Southwest reported Saturday receiving a call Friday morning from a man claiming to be from the federal government. The man said the resident qualified for an $8,000 rebate and asked for bank account information, according to the police report.

The caller also asked to speak to the man's wife by her maiden name, according to the report.

Friday, two Willmar residents reported to police receiving similar calls.
