Two hurt in crash at Highways 71/7
BLOMKEST - Two people were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar after a two-vehicle, broadside collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and State Highway 7 near Blomkest at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday.
A 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by Jon Platz, 48, of Morgan, was proceeding north on Highway 71 with a green light. A 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a driver not identified by the State Patrol was southbound on Highway 71 and turned left in front of the Impala, according to the State Patrol report.
Two passengers in the Impala, Pamela Platz, 53, and Caitlyn Platz, 19, both of Morgan, were treated at Rice Memorial Hospital.
The driver and passengers in the Impala were wearing seat belts and the airbag deployed.
Vehicles entered, items taken
WILLMAR - Owners of six different vehicles reported Wednesday that someone had rummaged through them, in some cases taking items and in all cases tossing the contents of glove boxes about.
In one instance, at a Fourth Avenue Northwest address, a video camera captured images of the incident.
Other reports of vehicles entered came from the 2800 block of 12th Avenue Northwest, the 3300 block of Fourth Avenue Northwest, 700 block of 29th Street Northwest, 300 block of Vos Park Drive, and the 1100 block of Sixth Street Southwest. Items ranging from coins to snow boots were stolen.
Last-minute shoplifting foiled
A last-minute shoplifting spree prior to the closing of stores Christmas Eve will result in theft charges for a 28-year-old suspect.
The man was taken into custody at the Wal-mart Store at 3:29 p.m. Christmas Eve with about $600 worth of merchandise.
Hit-and-run
WILLMAR - Police are investigating a report that a red Dodge pickup truck with a grill guard struck another vehicle and took off. The incident was reported at 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Kandiyohi Avenue Southwest and First Street South.
The driver of the Dodge pickup was described as a white male, possibly in his 40s.
Assault
WILLMAR - A Willmar man was booked into the Kandiyohi County Jail 1 p.m. Wednesday for an alleged domestic. The 22-year-old suspect was reportedly throwing and breaking things when police were summoned to the residence. He was booked on charges of domestic assault and fifth degree assault.
Vehicle theft
WILLMAR - The owner of a 2006 Saturn Vue reported it was stolen. It had been left running while in a parking lot near an address on the 2600 block of 15th Avenue Northwest 6:17 p.m. Wednesday.
Two flee residence
WILLMAR - A resident returning to her home on the 2400 block of Fifth Avenue Southeast spotted two people fleeing as she arrived around 2:53 p.m. Tuesday. No items were believed to be taken or damaged.
Door kicked in
WILLMAR - A resident on the 800 block of Fifth Street Southwest, Willmar, discovered Wednesday that a door had been kicked in.
Transformer explodes
WILLMAR - Police officers on patrol reported an electrical transformer exploded near the intersection of First Street South and 19th Avenue South around 8:56 p.m. Wednesday.
Liquor stolen
SPICER - A man was issued a citation for theft after allegedly taking a bottle of liquor from a Spicer business on the 300 block of Minnesota Trunk Highway 23 in Spicer 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Auto parts stolen
SUNBURG - Batteries for vehicles, catalytic converters and four rims for a Chevrolet SS454 were stolen from a Sunburg business, it was reported Wednesday.
Items taken from car
LAKE LILLIAN - A briefcase and green satchel were among items stolen Tuesday from an unlocked vehicle in Lake Lillian, the owner reported.
Vehicle intercepted
CLARA CITY - Police in Clara City intercepted a vehicle that was returning to Montevideo with a vehicle door from Rohner’s Auto Parts, rural Willmar, strapped to its roof it 1 p.m. Tuesday. The driver returned the door to Rohner’s and said he had forgotten to pay for it.
Driver hits KAT bus and runs
WILLMAR - A KAT transit bus was struck from behind Friday morning at the intersection of 30th Street Northwest and Third Avenue Northwest, according to a report to Willmar Police. The vehicle that struck the bus was described as an older model Honda with two male occupants inside. The car took off after hitting the bus.
Burglary
WILLMAR - The front door lock was broken and the door was apparently kicked in at a building in the 400 block of Litchfield Avenue Southwest. The incident was reported to Willmar Police Friday morning.
Thefts
WILLMAR - Willmar Police received a report Friday morning of the theft Thursday night of a purse left in a vehicle that was parked in the driveway in the 600 block of 24th Street Southeast. The purse contained a South Dakota driver’s license, a bank credit card, a bank debit card and $10-$15 in cash.
WILLMAR - Staff at the Willmar Wal-mart caught a shoplifter Thursday afternoon who attempted to steal about $600 in merchandise, according to a report to Willmar Police. When officers were called, the individual was being detained in the manager’s office.
