Man breaks into Willmar business
WILLMAR - A 50-year-old Ohio man was arrested Monday evening for allegedly breaking into a Willmar business in the 1000 block of U.S. Highway 71 Service Road.
Willmar Police Officers responded to an alarm at Hansen Advertising around 5:47 p.m. Monday and arrived to find the suspect inside.
The man told officers he was looking for a place to stay, Police Chief Jim Felt said. He had allegedly broken in through a window and tore the security alarm off the wall in an attempt to disable it.
The suspect remains in custody at Kandiyohi County Jail and faces pending charges of burglary, criminal damage to property and trespassing.
District Court
Kandiyohi County
WILLMAR - Guadalupe Vargas Lopez, 46, of Willmar was convicted Tuesday of felony charge of possession of a pistol or assault weapon by a person who has been convicted of a violent crime.
Lopez was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison, stayed for 10 years, and 270 days in Kandiyohi County Jail. He was also placed on 10 years of probation and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
The criminal complaint alleges that a man reported to CEE-VI Drug Task Force agents in March that he had purchased three handguns from Lopez. The investigation revealed that Lopez has a 2004 conviction for second-degree controlled substance and is ineligible to possess firearms. One of the guns was registered as stolen in 2010.
