Willmar man injured in multi-car crash

WILLMAR - A Willmar man was injured in a three-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon near St. Cloud.

According to the State Patrol, Yahya Shire Abdi, 28, was driving 2009 Chevrolet Malibu on an Interstate 94 exit ramp at around 1:30 p.m. when he failed to yield as the vehicle pulled into the eastbound lanes of Highway 23.

The Malibu was struck by a 2014 Subaru sedan driven by Melinda Allison Metz, 47, of Richmond, and that vehicle was then struck by a 2011 Nissan Altima driven by William Joseph Thelen, 45, of Cold Spring.

Abdi and Metz were taken to the St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol.

Thelen and a passenger, Paula Kay Thelen, 45, of Cold Spring, were not injured.

Road conditions were dry at the time of the accident.

Parental discipline assist

WILLMAR - Shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, a woman on the 1200 block of Campbell Avenue Northwest called the Willmar Police Department, requesting that they tell her child they would be taking him to jail. Police advised the woman that they would not tell the boy he was going to jail, explaining that it was a parenting issue that would need to start at home.

Harassment

WILLMAR - At 2 p.m. Friday, a man reported that his roommate had threatened him and a woman. The man reported the alleged harassment to the Willmar Police Department from the 1100 block of 24th Street Northwest in Willmar.

Suspicious activity

WILLMAR - A woman reported suspicious activity to the Willmar Police Department around 1 p.m. Sunday. She told police that she observed people leaving small packages inside a Willmar home earlier in the day, and that the people driving the truck seem to have a different vehicle every day. The woman told police she had not seen any drugs or any suspicious objects. The report was forwarded to the CEE-VI Drug Task Force.

Theft

WILLMAR - Walmart employees reported two shoplifters had stolen an air compressor and children's clothing from the store at 9 p.m. Sunday. The license plate number provided by a witness was inconclusive. Police requested more information from the witness so they could follow up with the report.

Suspicious person

WILLMAR - Around 2 a.m. Sunday, a woman told police she saw a suspicious man with a phone wearing a hooded sweatshirt, hiding behind a tree in an alleyway near Kennedy Elementary School in Willmar. Police checked the reported area, near the intersection of Fifth Street and Rice Avenue Southwest, but were unable to locate the individual in question.

Safety complaint

NEW LONDON - A child around 12 years old was seen riding a four-wheeler without a helmet Saturday, near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Briar Street Southeast. A man reported the incident to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. Deputies located the residence where the four-wheeler was located around 12:30 p.m. and advised the occupants of the complaint.

Possible cabin break-in

SPICER - A window was damaged on a cabin on the 13700 block of Indian Beach Road in Spicer, a woman reported to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Footprints were also located around the home. Deputies took photos of the scene.

Hunting complaint

ATWATER - A man heard gunshots and observed a white, four-door vehicle driving slowly around 1:30 a.m. Sunday near the 17200 block of Sperry Lake Road in Atwater. He reported the activity to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, believing it may have been coyote hunters. Deputies learned the suspicious activity had been coyote hunters and determined safety was not an issue.

Harassment

WILLMAR - A Willmar woman received multiple messages around 7 p.m. Sunday from a man threatening to hurt her and burn down her home. She reported the messages to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. A deputy took photos of the messages and explained the order for protection process to the woman.
