Police pursuit

FAIRFAX - A man who led police on a six-mile pursuit Sunday afternoon in Renville County was arrested on drinking and driving-related charges and is expected to make a court appearance this week.

According to the Renville County Sheriff's Office, at around 1:30 p.m. a deputy attempted to stop a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix for speeding and failure to signal.

The driver, a 34-year-old man from Buffalo Lake, continued to drive for six miles through Martinsburg Township as deputies pursued him.

He eventually stopped but had to be physically removed from the vehicle, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office.

He was taken into custody without any further incident and booked into the Renville County Jail on probable cause of fleeing in a motor vehicle, first-degree driving while impaired, driving with a cancelled driver's license and obstructing the legal process.

Assisting on the scene were the State Patrol and the Fairfax Police Department.

Arrest

COSMOS - While responding to a report of a possible theft in Cosmos, the Meeker County Sheriff's Office arrested a 28-year-old Litchfield woman on a Meeker County warrant. The incident was reported at 5:02 a.m. on North Milky Way Street in Cosmos.

High speeds

WILLMAR - A police officer reported a vehicle driving at a very high speed at 5:24 p.m. Sunday on the northbound Highway 71/ Highway 23 bypass in Willmar. The driver of the vehicle passed the officer on the on ramp near the Assembly of God Church and continued northbound. The vehicle was said to have been going 91 mph in a 65 mph zone, which was confirmed by speedometer and radar in a police squad.

Theft

APPLETON - The Appleton Police Department is looking for information regarding a burglary at Lewis Drug that took place around Jan. 16, according to a Facebook post the department shared Sunday. Employees noticed the back door to the drug store had been pried open and drugs totaling around $2,200 were taken. Police said only one bottle was a mild narcotic, while the rest were medication. If anyone has any information regarding the theft they are asked to call Appleton Police at 320-289-2356.

Truck through ice

RICHMOND - Two people safely escaped a truck before it sank Sunday on Horseshoe Lake in rural Stearns County.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, Yang Toua, 30, of Columbia Heights, was driving a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup on the lake around noon when he veered off the trail and the truck broke through the ice.

The truck initially sank up to the wheels and Toua and his passenger, Ge Xiong, 29, of Minneapolis, got out of the truck before it eventually sank in about six feet of water.

The truck was removed from the lake around 6 p.m. by a towing service using special ice and water removal equipment.
