Following is the records summary for Jan. 26:
Fire destroys Elrosa building
GROVE TOWNSHIP - Stearns County Deputies and the Elrosa Fire Department responded to a fire at the 3200 block of US Highway 71 just after 9 p.m. Saturday after a passerby saw flames coming out of the roof of a building.
Deputies arrived at the scene and found the building to be completely consumed by flames. Officials deemed the structure a total loss due to the fire damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
The Elrosa Fire Department was assisted by the Sauk Centre Fire Department and Sauk Centre Ambulance.
Beware of IRS telephone scams
LITCHFIELD - The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is urging caution to residents after receiving numerous reports Monday referencing IRS telephone scams.
Residents report that the caller claims to be a representative of the IRS, demands payment for past due taxes, and threatens arrest. Sheriff Brian Cruze is advising residents to be cautious, hang up on scam calls, and to call the IRS directly if they believe the call is legitimate.
Kandi Mall stores report burglaries
WILLMAR - Police responded to several incidents at Kandi Mall over the weekend after multiple stores reported burglaries from early Sunday morning.
Sears reported an attempted burglary around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Police are still investigating security footage to form descriptions of three suspects in the attempted burglary.
Gamestop reported burglary, theft and criminal damage to property from Saturday night or Sunday morning. They say gaming consoles, headphones and controllers were taken from the store. A glass partition near the register was also damaged.
A manager at clothing store Glik’s reported a burglary from Sunday morning just after 1 p.m. Sunday.
Andrea’s Boutique also reported two thefts Sunday, one that happened sometime between Tuesday night to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, and another sometime between Saturday night to 10:15 a.m. Sunday morning.
The incidents may be related. The Willmar Police Department is investigating.
Willmar police also responded to an open door in the loading area at Kandi Mall shortly before 1 a.m. Monday.
They checked inside, and found nothing to be out of place. Police were not able to gain access to the mall, but they secured the area.
Host says guest took off with electronics
WILLMAR - Willmar police received report of a theft on the 1200 block of Dana Drive Southeast shortly after 11 a.m. Monday. The resident suspected someone who had stayed at their home had taken several items, such as a Menards gift cards, iPhone and iPad screens, a Samsung Galaxy screen kit, two Samsung tablets, an AT&T tablet, and a package of Axe brand products.
