Crashes

SUNBURG - Two people were injured in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning east of Sunburg in Norway Lake Township.

The Minnesota State Patrol said Adam Paul Gunderson, 37, of Benson, was behind the wheel of a 1996 GMC Jimmy and was southbound on Kandiyohi County Road 1, heading toward Minnesota Highway 9, when he apparently failed to stop at a stop sign. The truck went off the road, striking a tree and fence.

Gunderson and a passenger, Jesse C. Thompson, 41, of Benson, were taken to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The crash was reported at 2 a.m. Sunday.

The report indicated alcohol may have been a factor with the driver, Gunderson. It is unknown whether Gunderson was wearing a seat belt. Thompson was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

The Sunburg and New London Ambulance crews, Lakes Area First Responders, Sunburg Fire Department and Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.

RENVILLE - A teenage driver was injured Saturday afternoon when his vehicle went off the road and rolled over. The crash was reported at 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of 210th Street and 870th Avenue in Ericson Township, six miles northwest of Renville.

Responders found a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina overturned and resting on its roof in the ditch on the north side of 870th Avenue. The driver was identified as Derek Reynolds, 16, of Renville.

The Renville County Sheriff''s Office said Reynolds apparently was northbound on 210th Street, attempted to turn left onto 870th Avenue and slid off the road, entering the ditch, striking a utility box and rolling over. Speed was believed to be a factor, according to the Sheriff's Office. The driver was taken to RC Hospital in Olivia with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Renville Ambulance Service.
