Juvenile hit by car in Willmar crosswalk, suffers minor injuries

WILLMAR -- A male juvenile was hit by a car around 7:05 p.m. Friday while walking his bike across the crosswalk at the intersection of 19th Avenue Southeast and 1st Street South in Willmar.

The juvenile suffered minor injuries and was taken home by his parents.

According to the police report, the driver of the car, which was described as a black sedan, did stop and ask the boy if he was okay. When the victim said he was okay, the driver left the scene, heading north on 1st Street.

The report said the juvenile, along with two others, were walking their bikes across the north side crosswalk, heading east. The vehicle made a right hand turn from 19th Street Southeast to go north on 1st Street. The vehicle hit the juvenile and knocked him down, the report said.

Motorcycle passenger injured in crash with deer

APPLETON -- Alanna Larae Rens, 53, of Appleton, suffered non-life threatening injuries when the motorcycle she was riding on hit a deer.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:16 p.m. Friday.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, the 2009 Honda FXDB motorcycle was heading southbound on Highway 59, near Highway 119, when it hit a deer.

The driver of the motorcycle, Peter Casey Rens, 55, of Appleton, was not injured in the incident. Alanna Rens was taken to Appleton Municipal Hospital.

The press release said neither were wearing a helmet and the road conditions were dry. Assisting the state patrol were the Appleton Police Department, Appleton EMS and the Swift County Sheriff's Office.

Car fire reported at Willmar Walmart

WILLMAR -- A car caught fire around 6:03 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Willmar Walmart.

The fire was put out by a passerby with a fire extinguisher.

Both the Willmar Fire Department and Police Department, as well as the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, did respond to the scene.
