Two hurt in rural Yellow Medicine County crash

GRANITE FALLS - Two people were hurt when their vehicles collided at 5:42 a.m. Monday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and Yellow Medicine County Road 5 in Lisbon Township.

A 2010 Hyundai Accent driven by Titus Glenn Perry, 51, of Canby, was eastbound on County Road 5. A 2010 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Rony Ramon Villalta Amendares, 43, of Clarkfield, was northbound on Highway 59. The Hyundai ran the stop sign and collided with the Traverse, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Both drivers were transported to the Granite Falls Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to the Patrol. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor. The airbags in both vehicles deployed.

The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office also responded to the accident.

Man treated after jumping from burning home

WILLMAR - A man injured his arm when he jumped from the second story of a house on the 400 block of Augusta Avenue Southeast in Willmar after a fire broke out in its kitchen around 9:55 p.m. Sunday. He was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for treatment.

Willmar Fire Chief Frank Hanson reported that firefighters encountered high heat and smoke in the kitchen area on arrival. The firefighters were able to confine the fire to the kitchen area.

Other areas of the house sustained minor water and smoke damage. The fire is believed to be a cooking accident.

Fire crews remained on the scene for about 1½ hours. The Willmar Fire Department was assisted by the Willmar Ambulance Service, Willmar Police and Willmar Municipal Utilities.

Dog jumps fence, attacks small dog

ATWATER - A report said a small dog was badly injured when another dog jumped a fence and attacked the smaller dog Sunday evening on the 500 block of Fourth Street in Atwater. A family member later told the West Central Tribune that the small dog was killed.

Electric line on road

WILLMAR - Police responded at 8:07 p.m. Sunday when an electric power line to a house broke and fell on the road on the 900 block of Second Street Southeast in Willmar.

Theft

WILLMAR - A resident told police on Monday that a wallet with several credit cards was stolen from his vehicle on the 300 block of 14th Street Southeast in Willmar. The credit cards were used at the Walmart store.

Vandalism

WILLMAR - A window was broken out of a building on the 5300 block of Highway 71 South, Willmar, it was reported on Sunday.
