Elrosa man killed, toddler son injured
ELROSA - An Elrosa driver was killed, his 2-year-old son seriously injured, and two others left with non-life-threatening injuries early Tuesday after a head-on crash in a construction zone on U.S. Highway 71 just north of Elrosa.
The State Patrol says Michael D. Blume, 28, was the driver of a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling south on U.S. Highway 71 near 320th Street. His vehicle crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a semi truck.
Blume was pronounced dead at the scene. His 2-year-old son was a passenger in the vehicle, and transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with serious injuries.
Two people in the semi, 44-year-old driver Carlos Sandoval and 14-year-old Angel Sandoval of Grand Island, Nebraska, suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening and were transported to the Sauk Centre Hospital.
Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Sauk Centre Police, Sauk Centre Ambulance, and Elrosa Fire and Rescue assisted on the scene.
Pedestrian struck
WILLMAR - A 20-year-old pedestrian on a skateboard was struck by a pickup truck just before 8 a.m. Monday at the intersection of First Street South and Trott Avenue Southwest, and a Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s deputy witnessed the crash.
According to incident reports from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office and Willmar Police Department, the pickup truck was going through the intersection on a green light at the time of the crash. The driver of the truck, 41-year-old Christopher Huisinga, then struck the skateboarder, 20-year-old Ian Scheeler, with his vehicle. Scheeler told officers the orange pedestrian “stop” hand had disappeared, according to the initial report.
A Willmar police officer also responded to the scene of the crash.
