WILLMAR - Ulises Sanchez, 32, of Willmar, was sentenced Monday to two years of prison on an amended charge of felony charge of terroristic threats.
Sanchez will receive 311 days’ credit for time already served. A gross misdemeanor charge of fifth-degree assault was dismissed Monday.
According to the complaint, Willmar police were called June 13 to Little Dukes, where a citizen reported two men were fighting. The first officer to arrive was informed that the participants were at a nearby store and that a silver Isuzu Rodeo was involved.
A man at that location reported that Sanchez had seen him at Little Dukes and that Sanchez had accused the man of following him. The man had turned away from Sanchez and said that he was crazy, which caused Sanchez to hit the man in the head and pull a knife. Sanchez then ran away.
Police located Sanchez in a nearby restroom and arrested him. He refused to speak with police.
WILLMAR - Michael Anthony Smith, 38, of Melrose, was sentenced Tuesday on a felony charge of criminal vehicular operation stemming from an accident in Kandiyohi County that seriously injured a North Dakota man.
Smith was sentenced to 120 days in jail on the charge and three years of probation. He received a stay of adjudication on the criminal vehicular operation charge, which means that a conviction will not appear on his record if he successfully completes probation.
As part of a plea agreement, an additional charge of careless driving was dismissed.
Smith was the driver of a tractor-trailer that crashed into a pickup truck May 31 on U.S. Highway 71 near Kandiyohi County Road 29. The criminal complaint states that Casey Jenny, 25, of New London, was stopped or nearly stopped in his pickup, waiting to make a left turn, when Smith’s semi struck his pickup. Jenny’s passenger, Matthew Moen, 24, of Reynolds, North Dakota, suffered a broken neck and back in the impact.
Smith had filed a motion in September to dismiss the criminal vehicular operation charge, stating that the state did not have enough evidence to constitute the charge.
Judge Jennifer Fischer denied his request during a hearing in October.
WILLMAR - Two Willmar men received prison sentences Tuesday stemming from a high-speed chase with drug task force agents this October in Willmar.
Ricardo Daniel Gomez, 38, was sentenced to 88 months in prison, with credit for 223 days already served, on a felony second-degree drug possession charge. He was also sentenced to 19 months in prison on a felony charge of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, which will run concurrent with the other charge.
As the result of a plea agreement, additional felony charges of first-degree drug sale, fifth-degree drug possession, obstructing the legal process and receiving stolen property were dismissed.
Gomez’ passenger in the high-speed chase, Jeremiah Judson Malvin, 30, was sentenced Tuesday to 58 months in prison, with credit for 224 days served, on an unrelated charge of second-degree drug sale. He allegedly sold 6.4 grams of methamphetamine during four separate controlled drug buys in Willmar.
In return for Malvin’s guilty plea, an additional two felony third-degree drug charges in this unrelated case were dismissed.
Malvin also had faced four felony drug charges in the case involving the high-speed chase with officers: two third-degree drug possession charges and two fifth-degree possession charges. As part of the plea agreement, these charges were also dismissed.
According to the criminal complaint, the chase started after agents attempted to arrest Gomez on outstanding warrants. He reportedly traveled around 70 to 80 miles per hour, running stop signs and passing school zones at excessive speeds.
Gomez allegedly attempted to flee on foot after he lost control of his vehicle. He allegedly threw a small purple bag, later found to contain more than 26 grams of methamphetamine.
Agents also reportedly found additional drugs and drug paraphernalia at the scene, such as baggies, scales, a large amount of cash, marijuana and more amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.
WILLMAR - Pamela Elaine Nganga, 54, of Willmar, was sentenced Tuesday on a felony charge of financial transaction card fraud.
Nganga was sentenced to 13 months of prison, stayed for five years, and 300 days of jail. An additional felony theft charge was dismissed Tuesday, as part of a plea agreement.
According to the criminal complaint on the charges, a Willmar Police Department officer met with a woman Dec. 3 who said she thought Ngamga had stolen $150 cash and her debit card.
The woman told the officer that her debit card had been used that same day at a Willmar bank to withdraw $300.
She said Nganga may have known her PIN.
On Dec. 29, the officer went to the bank and reviewed video surveillance footage, which showed Nganga walking up to the ATM around the same time cash was withdrawn from the woman’s account.
WILLMAR - Marco Aurelio Deleon Jr., 23, of Willmar, was sentenced Tuesday on a felony charge of violating a domestic abuse-no contact order.
Deleon was sentenced to 15 months of prison, stayed for five years.
He was also sentenced to 85 days of jail, with credit for all days served.
Additional charges of felony first-degree burglary and pattern of stalking conduct were dismissed Tuesday.
According to the criminal complaint on the charges, a Willmar officer was dispatched to a Willmar residence Jan. 18 on the report of a domestic abuse-no contact order violation.
A woman allegedly told the officer that Deleon had violated the order and was sitting in her apartment when she returned home.
The woman allegedly told Deleon to leave several times, but Deleon refused and she had to force him out of her home.
