Man shot with flare gun at Willmar business

WILLMAR - A man was shot with a flare gun late Wednesday night after arguing with another man in a Willmar business.

The alleged victim was not injured and the suspect - who fled the scene - has not been located.

Police were notified at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday that an assault had taken place at the Speedway convenience store, 415 First Street South.

Officers learned that a verbal argument had taken place between two customers inside the store and that both were asked to leave by store employees.

According to a news release issued by Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt, as the men exited the store, one man pulled an orange flare launching pistol from his clothing, shot it at the other person and then ran from the scene.

The initial investigation shows that the two men knew each other and that the victim did not suffer any injuries.

The suspect has been identified but his whereabouts are unknown at this time.

The Willmar Police Department was assisted by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. The case remains under investigation.

Man arrested for assaulting father

EDEN VALLEY - A 55-year-old Eden Valley man is in the Meeker County Jail facing charges for allegedly assaulting his father with a gun.

The incident was reported at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 34300 block of 617th Avenue in Eden Valley.

According to a preliminary report from Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze, the father told law enforcement that his adult son took a gun away from him then threw him to the ground. The son allegedly put the gun to his neck and pulled the trigger but the gun jammed and did not fire.

The man suffered minor injuries during the altercation that did not require medical attention, according to a news release.

The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived but was later arrested in Eden Valley without incident and is being held in the Meeker County Jail pending a court appearance.

One-vehicle crash injures Meeker County man

DASSEL - A 20-year-old Meeker County man was airlifted to a metro hospital following a one-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning.

The incident was reported at 4:05 a.m. at the intersection of Meeker County Road 15 and County Road 6, southeast of Dassel in Collinwood Township.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, Justin Simonson, 20, of Cokato, was the lone occupant of a vehicle that left the roadway and struck a tree.

Simonson was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield and then airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

The extent of his injuries is unknown. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this crash, according to Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office, Dassel Fire and Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance all responded to the scene.

Semi crash injures Redwood Falls man

FORADA - George Roosevelt Kates, 56, of Redwood Falls, was injured Thursday when the semi he was driving tipped over.

The accident was reported at 6:44 a.m. on state Highway 29 near Forada in Douglas County.

According to the State Patrol, Kates was driving a 2009 Freightliner semi south on Highway 29 when the load in the trailer shifted as the vehicle entered a curve on wet roads. The semi tipped over into the west ditch.

Kates was taken to the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria with non-life-threatening injuries.

WILLMAR - A customer apparently paid with a counterfeit $10 bill at McDonald's restaurant, according to a report made to Willmar police at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Burglary

WILLMAR - A side door to a garage in the 200 block of High Avenue Northeast was reportedly kicked in and items taken from the garage, according to a report made to Willmar police at 12:39 p.m. Thursday.
