District Court Kandiyohi County

WILLMAR - Beverly Ann Montag, 46, of Willmar, made an amended guilty plea Wednesday on a charge of felony theft for allegedly taking $2,000 from a person whose finances she was managing.
As part of a plea agreement, an additional charge of felony financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult will be dismissed. Montag will make her next court appearance Dec. 15 for sentencing.
The criminal complaint alleges that a woman reported to Willmar police that Montag was her representative payee and had withdrawn $2,000 from the woman’s account. The woman said she hadn’t received any of the money.
During the investigation, Montag was shown the bank statements showing the withdrawn amount and claimed she took the money from the woman’s account to save it, as she claimed the woman was making purchases and spending money.
Montag claimed the money was in a lockbox at another person’s home. That person was interviewed by police and said he hadn’t seen Montag with money and had no idea that he was supposedly holding it in a lockbox.
