Two injured in crash north of Willmar

WILLMAR — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday night north of Willmar.

The accident was reported at 6:20 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and 60th Avenue Northeast, which is near Eagle Lake and midway between Willmar and Spicer.

According to the State Patrol, a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Daniel Lee Epema, 61, of Willmar, was going east on 60th Avenue when it failed to yield to a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Maria Esther Garcia, 51, of Willmar, that was going south on Highway 71.

Both drivers were taken to Carris Health — Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol accident report.

Roads were dry at the time and both drivers were wearing seat belts. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.


The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, Spicer Fire Department and CentraCare Ambulance responded to the scene.

Alcohol a factor in Pope County crash

STARBUCK — Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a one-vehicle crash Thursday night in Pope County that injured the driver.

The crash was reported at 11:15 p.m. on state Highway 114 and East Ninth Street in the Starbuck city limits.

According to the State Patrol, Cody William Tapio, 27, of Starbuck, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze south on Highway 114, which is also known as Main Street, when the vehicle entered the east ditch and struck a telephone pole and several mailboxes.

Tapio was taken to the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the State Patrol accident report, Tapio was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Road conditions were dry.


WILLMAR — A resident of an apartment the 1400 block of 13th Avenue Northeast in Willmar reported Thursday night that someone had entered the residence while no one was home.

Suspicious man

WILLMAR — Police are investigating a report that a male tried to lure a young girl into his vehicle around 3 p.m. Thursday on the 2600 block of Third Avenue Southeast.

Damage to garage

WILLMAR — A lock was broken on a garage and the window on an unoccupied house was opened on Sixth Street Southeast in Willmar, it was reported Thursday afternoon.


Trespass notice for shoving man

WILLMAR — A man was forbidden to enter a business for a year after it was reported the man pushed another man to the ground at the business on the 1400 block of Highway 12 East in Willmar. The man was served with the trespass notice on Thursday afternoon.

Missing purse

WILLMAR — A community service officer with the Willmar Police Department drove a route that a woman had taken in search of a purse the woman reported losing, but the officer was unable to find it on Thursday. The woman said she believes she had left it on the top of her car before starting the trip, but was not sure.
