Crashes
CLARA CITY - A child was injured Saturday morning in a two-vehicle broadside crash at the intersection of Minnesota Highways 23 and 7 in Clara City.
The Minnesota State Patrol identified the drivers as Gerardo Martinez, 23, of Modesto, California, and Juan J. Maldonado, 34, of Willmar. Neither was injured.
A passenger in Maldonado’s van, 5-year-old Stan T. Maldonado, was hurt but the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
A second passenger in the van, Nichole Dauphinais, 41, of Raymond, was not injured.
Martinez also had a passenger in his vehicle, 17-year-old Itzel Delacruz of Modesto, California, who was not hurt.
The crash happened shortly after 11 a.m. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Clara City Ambulance and Clara City Police Department assisted at the scene.
Thefts
WILLMAR - Willmar Police responded to a rash of apparent vehicle break-ins reported Saturday morning in a northwest Willmar neighborhood. At least four incidents were reported, all within a few blocks of each other and all apparently taking place sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
A purse was stolen from one of the vehicles and then found a short distance away, burned and destroyed. Another vehicle had one of its windows broken.
Police are investigating.
WILLMAR - A detached garage in the 700 block of 17th Street Southeast was broken into over the weekend and several items stolen. The incident was reported Sunday to Willmar Police.
Among the items taken were a mountain bike, bike helmet, 18-volt batteries for an electric trimmer and leaf blower, and an athletic bag containing football gear.
WILLMAR - The renter of a storage unit on West Highway 12 reported a theft and break-in Sunday.
A toolbox and tools were stolen from the storage unit. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
Fire

WILLMAR - A dryer full of clothes caught fire Saturday morning at a house in the 900 block of Litchfield Avenue Southwest. The blaze was put out by a fire extinguisher.
