WILLMAR -- The hand count of ballots cast for governor is going smoothly today in Kandiyohi County. So far there have been no challenged ballots but Tom Emmer did pick up one new vote and Mark Dayton lost one vote.

The recount got underway at 9 a.m. By noon 16 of 35 precincts had been completed, however a majority of those precincts were smaller ones.

Kandiyohi County Auditor Sam Modderman said the larger precincts with more ballots will be hand counted this afternoon.

He said the goal is to finish the process sometime today.

Besides the official representatives for Dayton and Emmer that are keeping a close eye on how the ballots are sorted and counted, at least a dozen other people are watching the procedure. Most of those individuals are Dayton supporters.
