OLIVIA -- A two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning in Renville County took the life of a passenger in one of the vehicles and left the driver of the other in critical condition.
The accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of 740th Avenue and 350th Street, approximately eight miles south of Olivia in Renville County, according to the Renville County Sheriff's Department.
The name of the deceased was not available at press time, pending notification of next of kin.
Involved in the collision were a 2004 Ford Ranger, driven by Samuel Gilchrist, 30, of Morton, and a 1991 Oldsmobile 88 Royale Brougham driven by Cornelio Valdez, 50, of Redwood Falls.
A passenger in the Gilchrist vehicle was airlifted from the scene to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale where he later died from his injuries, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Valdez was transported to the Renville County Hospital in Olivia and later airlifted to North Memorial Center. He was listed in critical condition.
Gilchrist was transported to the Renville County Hospital, where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
The Renville County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Olivia Police, Minnesota State Patrol, Olivia Ambulance, Fire and Rescue units, along with North Memorial Air Care at the site.
The Renville County Sheriff's Department is investigating the accident.
