OLIVIA -- The Renville County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday rejected the three bids submitted for rebuilding a portion of County Road 11.
The commissioners plan to put the project back up for bids either later this year, or possibly early next year, according to Marlin Larson, public works director.
All three bids submitted for the project exceeded the engineer's estimate for the work by more than 10 percent, Larson said.
The engineer's estimate for the project was $3,431,280.75. The low bid was offered by Central Specialties, Alexandria, at $3,780,569.99.
The project calls for rebuilding County Road 11 from its junction at Minnesota Highway 4 to a point 5½ miles east.

Discussion at the meeting Tuesday focused on the likelihood that the bids for the project were developed as world oil prices reached record levels. The commissioners believe the bidders based their bids on expectations that costs for fuel and asphalt would continue as a result.
Thanks to the recent drop in oil prices, the county is hopeful of seeing lower costs by bidding the project in the near future, Larson said.
