Retired New London-Spicer coach dies on Grand Canyon hike

NEW LONDON - Dave Peterman, a retired teacher and coach from the New London-Spicer school district died Thursday while hiking in the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

NEW LONDON – Dave Peterman, a retired teacher and coach from the New London-Spicer school district died Thursday while hiking in the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

According to John Vraa, NLS activities director, Peterman died of a heart attack.

"He was a tremendous man for our school and our community," said Vraa in a news release. "He had a great sense of humor, smile and an unforgettable laugh."

Vraa said Peterman touched the lives of many students during his 39 years at NLS.

Peterman served as a head coach in four sports for a total of 65 seasons from 1967 to 2006 and was conducted in the NLS Hall of Fame in 2012.

He is survived by his wife Judy and their three children.
