WILLMAR -- Richard LeRoy Nelson, 80, of Willmar died Friday at Infinia Care Center in Willmar.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Military honors will be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 and Finstad-Week VFW Post 1639.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred.
He was born May 8, 1926, in Willmar to Ole and Maren (Karlson) Nelson. He grew up and attended school in Willmar. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He married Elda Hanson on June 8, 1946, in Willmar. He worked for the county surveyor department and then as a draftsman for the Minnesota Department of Transportation from 1950 to 1986, when he retired.
He was a member of the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167, Finstad-Week VFW Post 1639 and the Valley Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife; son: Donald Nelson of Willmar; daughter-in-law: Faye Angrimson of Taunton; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children: Douglas and Jackie; and two sisters.
