WILLMAR -- Richard Michael Flaig, 55, of Willmar died Tuesday at his home. The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of St. Mary's in Willmar. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m...

WILLMAR -- Richard Michael Flaig, 55, of Willmar died Tuesday at his home.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of St. Mary's in Willmar. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Willmar.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today with parish prayers at 7 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus rosary service at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born April 11, 1953, in Redwood Falls to Vernon and Marjorie (Wilt) Flaig. He grew up in Redwood Falls where he attended elementary school and, in 1966, moved with his family to Willmar. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1971. He then attended Willmar Community College. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a trackman.

He married Lois Schmidt on Sept. 24, 1977, in Morgan. They lived in Kandiyohi and moved to Willmar in 1974. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 34 years.

He served as secretary-treasurer for the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Union. He was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. He was also a member of the Willmar Companionate Friends, Crow River Radio Organization, Catholic Aid Association, and assisted with Prairie Pothole Days.

He is survived by his wife; children: Thomas (and Krista) Flaig of Lanesboro, Ben Flaig, and Suzie Flaig; his parents, all of Willmar; brothers: Randy (and Ruthie) Flaig of Hutchinson, Dave (and Karen) Flaig of Willmar and Daniel (and Peggy) Flaig of Anoka.

He was preceded in death by his son: Steven in 1996.
